The Birdcage

Great drinks and a really fun atmosphere. It's a little loud, i don't mind that, but if you do I would think twice before going. The crowd tends to be younger, but there are enough people if any age that you will feel comfortable.

So I avoided this place for a long time due to the pretentious vibe it gives from outside. I must say that overall this was an absolutely beautiful place! Drinks aren't cheap but it's Santa Monica so that's just the way it goes. Theres plenty of bars and great spaces. The patios are gorgeous and they do some sort of show or host every night! Definitely worth the visit from time to time

Very disappointed. I came here one of the first nights it was open and had a brilliant time - loved how inclusive the dancefloor felt. But the tables turned so harshly! Tonight (9/15/17) we were specifically asked our sexual orientation in line and not let in because we weren't what they were looking for - told we would have a better time getting in on the other side of the building. What a horrible, exclusive experience from a group we expected to be loving. Never to return and going to discourage any friends from the same.

They have a limited but delicious brunch on weekends. Timed bottolmess mimosas. The overall vibe of the space is amazing. Nightlife is decent. They only have ONE bathroom though, for men and women. Unless you want to go downstairs then go back through the line to get back in.

Mostly women, plus straight guys with a few token gays. Average age around 25... I don't think this is really a gay bar... but it's nice looking place. Oh and don't go down the stairs, that's a one way trip and you have to go back outside and re-enter from the street again if you want to go back upstairs. Ugh.

The birdcage is nothing like you hope it would be! Invoking the spirit of Robin Williams will get you and all those associated with you exile from the space it offers. In honor of Mr. Williams, the greatest honor is to see in him other spaces that honor his name and his efforts to make the world a better place come to fruition! Mr. Williams has created spaces that create happiness and harmony in ways that this place defiles in his efforts and contributions to the industry. Supporting a gay friendly domicile would be a great endeavor, but I wish that you find one worthy!

Bouncer specifically let lgbtq in people first before anyone else. Nice change from typical bar experience outside of WeHo. Great music, amazing DJ, solid drinks, and good lighting.
