The food was good. Our server was a little flighty and gave us a "unique" ordering experience. One of the chefs also came to deliver our oysters and had his phone go off while presenting the food. In the grand scheme of things it didn't hinder our experience, but it's also all the little things that make up the whole experience. The atmosphere was nice and themed well. Much lighter than other tiki bars I've visited.

The food is worth the wait. We went on a Friday night around 7pm. Estimated wait time of 40 minutes. We didn’t end up getting seated until the 60 minute mark. Not using the review to complain but just giving people an idea of how busy this place can be. That said, the food here was great. I really wanted to try the katsu curry but didn’t see many previous reviews on it. So I decided to roll the dice & try it myself - glad I did! The pork katsu had a nice crisp & the dipping/mixing in the sauce & rice was heavenly. Also, you should also share the curry chicken wings. The cheese on them with the side sauce isn’t something you want to miss on. I don’t drink alcohol right now but my friends did say the drinks were pretty good (but strong) They also come in fancy tiki style cups so that was fun. Outside of the longer wait & our server automatically charging a gratuity for 6 people (when we only had 5), it’s a solid spot for people visiting restaurants in Indy.

Went during happy hour yesterday evening and it was amazing. Their oysters are so good! The first 12 for each person are $1.50 each. There is a limit to the first twelve having the happy hour price which we didn't know but that didn't stop me from ordering 12 more! The ramen blew me away. The shoyu broth had so much depth and the pork chashu was phenomenal!

Strange Bird landed in historic Irvington in 2019 with a winning combination of tiki style cocktails, oysters, and made-from-scratch ramen. There's definitely more in store than the name suggests. While it sounds like a stop off for those cravin' the avian, Strange Bird is a little piece of paradise for foodies. Patrons flock in from all over to enjoy the laid back ambience and full flavor food like the curry rice or the spicier Tantanmen ramen. Vegan options are excellent as well (recommend the Tokyo ramen). Happy hour (half price oysters) goes from 5 pm - 6 pm (ET). Tuesday through Saturday and all evening Sunday. Fans of the raw bar can also order up Peruvian, sashimi grade poke. Another feather in Strange Bird's cap is the cocktail menu. We enjoyed the Scorpion Reef (it's 'fire') and the Surf Rider. Whether you're feeling cooped up, looking for a chilled date night, post-golf snack (aka a "9 and dine"), or loungy option for cocktails, music and friends, Strange Bird stays fly.

A gem on the east side of Indianapolis in Irvington. This place is always bustling so be prepared for a wait but enjoy one of their many great cocktails while you do. I prefer their rum cocktails as they have a nice selection. Maybe add oysters while you wait as well. Their Ramen is delicious and a must have!

Wow, the Tonkatsu ramen is so good. Great drink, great vibe, another great date night spot in Indy.

My husband and I had a great time. Our waitress was awesome and really friendly (I secretly wanted to be friends with her). The food was all-around amazing. The dumplings with the shoyu sauce might have been my favorite out of everything. We tried the grilled oysters too, which were fantastic (and I can't do normal raw oysters because of the texture. These were perfect though). The teriyaki wings were perfect and my husband really enjoyed one of the ramen dishes. I wish I'd remembered to take a picture of everything but next time I will!

I was quite disappointed with my experience here. We ordered a traditional drink from Brazil that got us very excited, especially since we are both Brazilian. Once it arrived, it tasted vastly different and we kindly asked if it was a mix up. We then were told it was taste checked and was indeed what we ordered. Again, this startled us as we are both natives and have had it countless times. Good atmosphere.
