My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to visit and have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose Tavern on the Lake for Hightstown, our 150th town. Great eats and comfort food in a place that is at the center of the town. They have a fantastic beer selection on draft that rotates over time. For the fall season, we had a Hot Toddy and Spiked Cider. The French dip sandwich and crab cakes were great. When there's warmer weather, they have a great outdoor patio too!

Right from the entrance the place seems small but live. Which isn't a bad thing.Although this restaurant is hidden I beg you to try this location. The food is phenomenal! All Way round I just couldn't find anything to complain about. Great work here. Will be back

I went because I saw they had Magners on their website, their out sadly. But the Mango Refresher I got was so good. The waitress was very helpful and was right when she said the Prosciutto and Burrata salad was good. I probably could of just gotten the salad and the drink and been content. I did also get garlic tots and tots are always good. No doubt so good. Would go back.

We are visiting the town and gave Tavern on the Lake a shot. We were not disappointed. It has a homey feel with a surprisingly wide variety of both bar foods as well as entrees and comfort food. Loved the pot-roast stew on mashed potatoes with green beans. Healthy portion and great flavor. The bar was lively but not at all obnoxious - just a fun place to hang out with other folks enjoying themselves. Added to the upbeat feel of the restaurant. Certain a repeat spot for us on our future trips!

Beautiful view outside, the food was pretty good but I do like the atmosphere. I will be back to come to the other events. This place might be a frequent spot to hang out

A cute spot with a great menu. Lovely local vibe. Everyone knows everyone but is still friendly to non locals! The sliders are massive - all the portions were epic. Cooked well too. Will return!

No matter which dish I try I always walk away happy! Edward provided awesome service per usual. Garlic Parm wings were a favorite. Loved the grilled cheese with pulled pork and pork platter
