This is a must visit restaurant in the heart of the magical old mining town of Madrid. We stayed in the town for a few days and had to eat here. The food was next level good. The Mad Chile Burger with local Black Angus is by far the best burger I've had. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well, and made with love. My wife was in love with their margaritas, which were expertly crafted. Portions were huge and sides were delicous. We'll always stop by here when driving in the area.

Great place to stop and eat, you might even get there and find some local bands playing! The food was excellent, and the server was knowledgeable about the town and gave me some good recommendations for local arts and crafts. I would definitely take this back route to Santa Fe just to stop here again!

The Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid, NM, is a true gem along the historic Turquoise Trail. This saloon, steeped in history, exudes a rustic charm that instantly transports you back to the Old West. The wooden interior, vintage décor, and lively atmosphere all add to the unique ambiance that makes this place a destination in itself. The food is nothing short of fantastic. Known for its delicious burgers and pizzas, the menu also boasts a range of flavorful Southwestern dishes. Whether you're craving a green chile cheeseburger or classic New Mexican fare, every dish is packed with flavor and showcases the best of the region. Pair your meal with one of their local brews on tap, and you're in for a treat. To top it all off, the Mine Shaft Tavern offers live music, making it the perfect place to unwind and soak in the local culture. With a lively bar scene, friendly staff, and consistently great food, this historic spot captures the spirit of Madrid while serving up an unforgettable experience.

Excellent locally-sources Wagyu steak with two cheese enchiladas. Barbara served us well while enchanting us with local history. The fried artichoke hearts and fried chiles started our meal off in a fantastic way.

We eat here whenever we bring out-of-town guests to Madrid, and we’ve even made the half-hour drive from Santa Fe when we want the cowboy biker vibe this place offers in spades. The tavern is everything a saloon should be: an old, long wooden, mirror-facing bar; a stage at the far end of the windowless room where local musicians crank out Country and Oldies, a pool table, saloon lighting (but not fighting), and abundant tables, where you’d expect to see Doc Holiday leading a game of Faro. The only thing missing is the horses. Follow the mine shaft to the Cantina, where you’ll find another, shorter bar in a cheerful windowed room of tables. Our favorite daytime table is the high four-top near the far door, with its commanding view of the main drag. Outside the door is a patio with ample colorfully umbrellaed tables and a covered patio. The menu offers several reasonably priced bottles of wine and many local and nationally known beers, if cerveza is your thing. The food is upscale bar fare. The burgers, brisket dishes, wings, tenders, and pizzas are great for lunch and they’re Wagyu steaks for dinner. There are also several good but surprising dishes you wouldn’t expect to find in a saloon: Wagyu Steak Salad, Caprese Salad, Tuna Tataki, BLAT, and fish tacos. I guess saloons aren’t what they used to be, but this one’s better. We’ll be back, with or without guests. Suggestion: cut back on the suggested tip percentages, which are excessive.

Hello Lori. I gave your restaurant a 1 star to adue to your horrible bartender, Colleen (on picture) We dined in on Sunday 5 stars for your amazing server, Monica My detailed experience as below. First of all, I gave the bartender Colleen (on picture) a 1 star or no star at all. She finally noticed us and asked us to grab the only available table in her area and said, "Don't move the table." I noticed there was "bird poop" at the table. I flagged her down to see if she could clean it. She right away pointed the other table which had dirty plates, utensils, and quite a few dirty glasses that "she needed to clean first," she said. She was back and forth, taking 2 dirty glasses at a time from the other table. I was very upset. It wasn't just a dirty table, but there was bird poop. I was looking around and noticed Monica. I saw her cleaning tables and a big table very quickly in her area. I told my husband, "Let's move to the lower level because I will not tip that long hair girl." Thank goodness we moved to Monica's area. Her and the food runner guy worked really hard and very, very good. They are good assets to your restaurant. We drove to Madrid just to try your fried artichoke hearts. Because of amazing Monica, I decided to stay and enjoyed the food.

So this place is worth the detour. Great atmosphere and this burger is one of the best I have had in a long while. The folks inside were very nice and relaxed. It seems this place is sort of a gathering point for the community. The town is very touristy with lots of cool shops, but be careful on which days you go. These stores close on certain days.
