Went here after the NYGMC performance at the Skirbull theater on Saturday and had so much fun! My friend introduced me to some choir members and they were super friendly and sang some with the piano performer. The bartenders were very attentive I didn’t have long to wait on any drinks. I was told there was a downstairs but I didn’t even go I was having too much fun singing along to songs. There is a coat check if you want to use it. The bathrooms did have a fairly long wait but the facilities were decently cleaned and usable. I would go again when I come to town. It was fun!

This bar is frequented mostly by boomers and gen X gays. They have different theme nights and a piano which makes a perfect environment to enjoy time with friends while singing. if you want more action you can go to the lower level which they have disco music and gogoboys (sometimes).

The Monster Club in NYC has a captivating and vibrant atmosphere that makes it a popular destination for nightlife enthusiasts. This was my second visit, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The music was fantastic, the crowd was lively, and the overall ambiance was just as thrilling as I remembered. The club offers a unique experience with its eclectic mix of performances and a diverse crowd that makes everyone feel welcome. However, I encountered a peculiar situation at the entrance that somewhat marred the experience. While my friends and I presented our driver’s licenses without issue, one of my friends who had a New York State ID was unexpectedly asked to show his visa. This was confusing and concerning since a state-issued ID should suffice for identification purposes. It left us puzzled as to why additional documentation was necessary. It would be helpful if the club could clarify this policy to avoid similar confusion in the future.

I live on Long Island and The Monster was always my place. I have not been in years so took a train (LIRR) ride to Manhattan then subway to The Monster. When I walked in it just felt different. No one greeted me. However, the "doorman" asked for my ID/Proof card. I was surprised as I am a man in my 70's. He ran my license through some machine which made me nervous regarding identity theft. This still bothers me today and I worry about ID theft and all the hassles that result. I wish I just walked away and went to Stonewall - which I did after and they did not ask for ID. When I sat at bar, the bartender strikingly resembled "Masha Gessen" (google her). This tender was quite rude did not smile nor greet me. When he delivered my drink he said nothing. I then asked for "water" and he scowled at me and pointed to by the wall TV and said "get water there" and walked off. I looked over and there was a plastic machine under TV with paper funnel cups. The other bartender walked by my area several times and never said hello or even looked at me or anyone next to me. I asked the guy next to me and he said his name is "Dave" but I cannot verify. I only put two stars here because the man next to me was very nice and great conversation. I miss the old days when the bartenders were inviting, hospitable, friendly, efficient and just plain welcoming. I am saddened that I will never enter The Monster again.

A tip top gay venue in the heart of Manhattan! It is like a pilgrimage coming here, this place and the people who fought for gay rights in 1969 brought about the gay rights we enjoy today. A truly historic venue!
