Really cool. Speakeasy. Great atmosphere, Cool vibe. Service was very good. Everyone was friendly. The dessert was really good. The drinks were just okay. Not very flavorful, not what you would expect at a speakeasy. They also need more variety on their drink menu.

By far my most proudly found hidden gem thus far. I have been here twice now and each time they blew my mind. Everything is amazing from the moment you knock on the wooden door to be let in by their professionalism. Everybody that works there dresses amazing and very professional i love it. To me it’s not really a dine and restaurant place more like something I have called and maybe a light appetizer. But I also have not ordered anything other than the calamari and drinks. It didn’t give me the vibe to order a meal. It was hard to choose a drink because I didn’t really know what anything was on the menu, but I told my waiter that I wanted the cocktail with the best presentation and that’s exactly what he did.

The drinks were very tasty, although the wait for drinks to be delivered to our table took an hour. I'd suggest sitting at the bar for faster service or order a wine or beer. Took my partner because he had never been. He had a terrible experience.

3.5 stars. As a New Yorker, I’m a sucker for any speakeasy, so when in Wichita I had to try Dockum. It’s a cool entry experience in the basement of Wichita’s fanciest hotel: find the wooden door and knock for entry. It’s fairly large inside, so the bar’s energy is diffuse and more subdued; I like more buzz, personally. I was seated at the bar, where a cranky and entitled corporate type bristled when asked by the hostess to move over six inches to make room (so I wouldn’t be sitting on top of where the staff was preparing cocktail garnishes). Service was friendly and the bartender was solid. However, two younger staffers were a bit immature (chatty, loud, and unprofessional), making the overall impression less than what I seek from a luxe cocktail bar experience. My drink - a faintly smoky Old Fashioned called the Leadslinger - was fine, but not amazing, and in general the entire experience felt just a bit soulless. It was around 8p on a Wednesday, so maybe Wichita is just lively on Fridays and Saturdays, or it just wasn’t my night. The best thing about Dockum is that its name pays homage to an important civil rights event that happened upstairs on this site decades ago. Courageous Black students conducted a sit-in - perhaps the first nationally, but definitely early in the civil rights movement - at the lunch counter upstairs where there is now a fancy restaurant. It inspired the broader movement for racial justice that continues on today. This legacy, now connected by name to a basement bar of a swanky hotel, is the most soulful part of the entire experience and definitely one to toast to.

I had a great dinner at Dockum during a business trip to Wichita. Good conversation and cocktails with Louis at the bar, not to mention a solid burger at a great price. Some of the previous reviews mention a service charge that has been removed under new management. I would absolutely recommend Dockum for cocktails or dinner.

A fun experience. We had a reservation, you need to knock on the door. It was a first visit for some but not all. The cocktails are interesting and hit or miss for me. The smoking gun is my husband's favorite but the smoker is broken. I had the berry bubbles...just ok buy pretty. The have a small food menu including a burger and cheese board.

*Updated review* My original review from 9 months ago: 5+⭐️’s Romantic, beautiful, chill, all the feels! It’s one of my fav hidden speakeasies around! They also serve the food from Sienna upstairs which is nice! Current review: My husband and I have been going here a few times since a month since my original review. It’s very inconsistent the last few months. Sometimes we’re told they do an airline discount, sometimes not. Sometimes you can have the Sienna menu at Dockum, sometimes not. We usually order a few hand crafted cocktails and finish up with Bombay Sapphire and tonic, they are $9. The last few weeks now that automatically give you a “bump charge” of $4. We were told from the server that’s how they are trained now. She told me it’s because you get 1-1/2 oz pour, then she changed it to a 2 oz pour. Why are you giving people “doubles” without asking and charging them an extra charge? They said it’s always been that way but it hasn’t. I started keeping my receipts to show the airline discount from the past and noticed the original Bombay price. I think we’re over Dockum after all the inconsistencies. Whoever is training needs to make sure everyone is in the same page. I attached my receipts for reference. This somehow went from my favorite place I brag about to giving me a bad taste in my mouth. We’ve changed our date nights to other spots

This place is amazing! Truly a hidden gem in Wichita. Located in the basement of the Ambassador hotel, Dockum is a modern day speakeasy. From the moment you step off the elevator and spy the wood door with grated peephole you know you’re in for something special. Their drink menu consist of specialty concoctions they’ve come up with. They are mostly spins of classic drinks but with a twist here and there. You can also order up traditional drinks and beer and/or wine. During my visit I had the Old Smokin’ Cody which was their variation of an Old Fashioned and it was really good. The food menu is limited and it’s mostly finger foods. I had the Preservation Board which is their take on the meat and cheese board. It was very good and very filling. Certainly enough for two to share over drinks. The night I went (Wednesday) it was pretty slow and I was able to easily get a seat at the bar. However, my understanding is, normally, you need a reservation, especially on the weekends. To me Dockum is all about the atmosphere but that atmosphere comes at a cost. You should be prepared to spend a little money as the drinks are not cheap. Don’t get me wrong, you’re getting a premium experience but you’re also paying a premium price. Price aside, if you want a different bar experience look no further than Dockum, I highly recommend it.
