Typically, I have had great experiences at Madison Pub, mostly with the younger bartenders. My last two visits, however, have been comically bad. Last night, my partner and I went in for a drink. The bar was pretty loud, with a large party in the back. We sat closer to the front and were having a good time (laughing, talking at a normal volume, showing each other videos). The old white bartender with glasses came over and told us that we "needed to quiet down." Later on, my boyfriend confronted him about his inhospitality. The bartender said, "why are you making a big deal about this? we have had multiple people complain about you." This was clearly a lie, because the only patron near us was an older gentleman who was sitting alone. I understand people have off days, but this behavior appears to be habitual for this bartender. If you don't have a knack for customer service maybe you should get another job? I'll definitely be back because Mad Pub has a fun, chill environment, but if I see that man bartending, we're walking right back out.

I love the mixed crowd of locals - Pony or Union goers. Never a dull moment; great place to people watch. Try getting a grin out of Bartender Tony, or tip any of them well - regardless of which you do, your drinks will be very well poured.

I was having a rough night. Unprompted and without me saying a word, both the patrons and bartenders treated me with the utmost kindness and welcomed me with (literal) open arms. Places like this are a reminder of the power and impact of our community. Places like this are a light in the dark of this life. Through even the “smallest” of gestures I was reminded that we can evolved into good things and that hope exists in random places - that night it was this pub.

I had a very frustrating experience at this bar. When I presented my NEXUS card, the bartender accused me of being part of a sting operation, which was completely absurd. He even pulled out an ID verification guide but still claimed my federally-issued NEXUS card wasn’t valid. Stings don’t even involve NEXUS cards, and it was clear he didn’t know what he was talking about. He didn’t bother checking the hologram or other security features on the card either. NEXUS cards are valid IDs in Washington, recognized by state law, and I’ve never had this issue elsewhere. This situation was not only frustrating but also embarrassing. Management should educate their staff on acceptable forms of ID to avoid such unnecessary accusations in the future.

The bartenders must not like making money. We sat at the bar for a good 15 mins being completely ignored ( older guy with glasses) I finally had to get up and walk over to ask him if I could get a drink and was greeted with side eye and long sigh because we inconvenienced him.

i love this space and it’s a regular part of my rotation of queer spaces!! however, the older bar tender (hat, glasses) is always incredibly rude to me and my friends…like, really rude. i guess not everyone is meant for customer service… good luck with your tips!

i love coming here BUT the bartender (older, male, glasses) is always SO. RUDE. every time i go. i’m not sure what’s going on there, but they seem like they shouldn’t be working with the public. maybe back-of-house is better suited for your attitude. 2 stars bcz i like the touch tunes & claw machine.
