Make-Out Room

Jonathan Richman doing his annual residency here and occasionally frequenting the joint (among other micro heroes) should be enough for most people to worship the threshold of this place. But if it’s not, consider that it is one of the longest running independent venues in the Mission District allowing the independent music scene and culture to continually thrive. Always a hot fun time! And when it’s quiet it is damn near the best place to just disappear from the chaos of the city. Remember, no bar staff are certified therapists or babysitters so be kind and you may learn that a bunch of them are world traveled musicians or artists themselves and if you’re even kinder, they might just keep you glued to your seat for hours in absolute awe and hilariousness. Either way, you’re gonna get a solid pour and a good time! I was in there Wednesday night and they do indeed also take cards now!

**Terrible Experience at Make-Out Room** I recently had the displeasure of visiting the Make-Out Room in San Francisco, and I have to say, it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the rudest person at the door. They were incredibly mean, acting as if they were doing me a favor by letting me in. The attitude was off the charts, and it completely ruined the vibe before I even stepped inside. The whole atmosphere felt hostile and unwelcoming. Honestly, I can't believe how unprofessional the staff was. If you're looking for a good time in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and avoid the Make-Out Room. There are plenty of other spots in the city where you won't have to deal with such a horrible attitude right at the door.

I've been going here for something like 20 years. They're as welcoming to newbies as they are to regulars. It's a great place to see a live show, run into local celebrities, or just drink. I've seen people fall in and out of love at the Make Out Room. I'd call it an institution, but that sounds stuffy. The MOR is the opposite of stuffy. It's a dreamy, boozy, roll your sleeves up and drink or dance the night away sort of joint.

One of the coolest, or, dare I say it, the coolest place in the mission. Many nights they have bands starting around seven or 730, and then around 9:30 or 10 it turns into a DJ dance party. Also, dig that funky decor .

Essential part of the music community in San Francisco for so many years. Killer staff. Good vibes and eclectic line up of live music, DJ nights and gatherings. It's just a wonderful real San Francisco institution. Long live the Make-Out Room.

Hands down one of the best Dj and live music spaces in SF. Their commitment to local djs and musicians stands above any other venue in SF that I know of. Their diverse calendar of events reflex that ongoing commitment. Be sure to check out their happy hours!

Such a great, unique vibe inside! That said, we paid $10 for an abysmal DJ set. Check music before ya go!

The Makeout Room is a fantastic, heritage treasuregem in the Mission offering cocktails, beer and wine and an impressive and diverse array of events including live music, storytelling, drag shows and vinyl DJs, six nights a week. I love the fact that the vintage interior has not changed in 35 years, and there is not one TV. No matter what your taste, they have something for you.
