Sparky's Pub

Visiting from out of town, been to SA many many times but never been here. I can’t recommend this bar highly enough. You don’t know what you’re going to get when traveling and reviews say “neighborhood/dive bar,” but I can assure you this place should be on your list. It is not a “dive,” but has the demeanor of one: VERY diverse crowd, lgbtq+, all ages, friendly staff, friendly clientele, zero attitude, and strong drinks. I didn’t start looking around until after about 30 minutes here. It has the feel and look of a dive bar, but is incredibly well-designed. It’s a low-key-chic neighborhood bar with really impressive space and architecture that you wouldn’t predict from the outside. Bathrooms were cleaner than most bars at home with appropriate gendering and locks on doors, all genders and cultures clearly welcomed. Please give Sparky’s your business. They deliver in a capacity that’s become the pride of a dying breed of gay bars!!

Always love coming here! Jes serves great drinks in the wine bar area. Grab a slice of chocolate cake on your way for a late night snack!

So, the pub itself is good. The service seems fine, and the drinks are on par with other places around it, but it is located in this weirdly sectioned off area. They have an ID check on the way in, but also checkpoints in the middle of the area (because multiple bars share the closed off space). This may sound like a small gripe, and it is, except you can’t take drinks between venues. So…what’s the point of the gated off, secure area? Maybe they don’t want to share cups? They should also invest in nicer fences…chain link for the prices they’re charging per drink is pretty laughable. It gets crowded on weekends, which is a good thing, but don’t expect prompt service. Also, they charge for water. Only bottled water is available. I hope they have a good legal team because overserving without giving people access to water is a big risk. Anyway, we had a good time. Just be aware that it’s far from perfect. They know that, and they don’t seem to care. That said, it’s an easy place to have a good time…all things considered.

Love the place, came for a quick stop but we loved the place and the drinks "El coche loco" and the cucumber Margarita are really Good the staff is really nice and knowledgeable with the drinks. We are going to come back on our next visit to San Antonio. ❤️

I love love love Sparky’s Pub and the rest of gay strip in San Antonio. Great bartenders (especially, Rolando), and the drinks are strong and affordable. SA is a late night crowd. So, if you are there during the week for work or something, don’t expect it to be busy until late. Also, be sure to checkout the King of the Grill food truck right outside. It is open weekends and some weeknights. It’s great!

Recently went out 08/14 Monday evening and was possibly drugged or was slipped some kind of stimulant that made me black out. I ordered a diet coke (no alcohol) and that is the last thing I remember. Please be careful if you're going out make sure you have friends with you and a safe ride. I was incoherent and somehow made it home in tact but I am still shaken by the experience. Just be safe. It could have been passed to me at Pegasus and didn't hit until I got to sparky's.

Mi.mi is a must bartender to go to if you never been here. I promise she will Woooo. You. Literally.
