Great atmosphere and friendly service! Thanks to Seattle Restaurant Week, I randomly picked this restaurant and discovered a true gem. The duck leg confit tasted just like the one I loved at a Paris bistro. Perfect spot for gatherings or a quick workday escape.

The Coalman has become my new favorite spot in Newcastle! From the morning coffee and breakfast to the evening cocktails wine and dinner the place is a culinary treat. Its small and comfortable and friendly staff there to welcome you. The food is fresh and creative. They make their own pastries daily , the bread is from Grand Central, the coffee is cafe Umbria. - its quality all the way around. The woman who owns it has other restaurants in Ballard. She also grew up in Newport Hills and the name The Coalman is after the coal mining industry that is part of the history of the area. I wish them much success.

If you’re looking for a slice of Seattle’s big-city vibe without venturing into the city, this café-restaurant is an absolute gem nestled right in Newcastle. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by an upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere with music thoughtfully selected by the staff, making you feel like you've stepped into a cool urban café. It’s clear the team has put a lot of heart into the upscale and welcoming ambiance. The staff here are incredibly warm and welcoming; they go above and beyond to make every visit feel special. Annie, Bella, and Mikaila, in particular, always ensure our experience is fantastic. Their hospitality is next level, so much so that even my 4-year-old daughter loves coming here with me – she’s treated like a little VIP every time! They’ve created an environment that feels comfortable and inviting for everyone, whether you’re a regular or a first-time guest. As for the food, the menu is as eclectic as it is delicious. There’s something for everyone, and you can tell each dish is crafted with care. The coffee is out of this world – rich, smooth, and full of flavor – easily one of the best around. And if you’re here for dinner, don’t miss the cocktails! They’re perfectly mixed, with unique flavors that match the spirit of the place. This is not your typical suburban café, nor is it part of the usual chain-restaurant crowd. Every visit here is an experience, and you can really feel the love that goes into it. It’s a true hidden gem, standing out proudly among the standard options. Highly recommend checking it out for a taste of the city vibe right in the heart of the suburbs!

This is just what Newcastle/Renton areas needed- a chill, bougie, flavorful, healthy restaurant. We loved it! The wine and drink menu was fabulous- we had the dry rosé and macchiato. The warm potato salad had a lemon creme herb sauce on it that was to die for, and we just loved everything and everyone- the owner, Jen, came out and chatted with us too- it was so nice and delicious! We recommend everything we had and can't wait try their other dishes

The Coalman is a fantastic cafe located in Newcastle. The owner, Jen, and her staff are amazing and very helpful. Whether you're in the mood for a delicious latte, a glass of wine, or a lovely dinner spot for the evening, The Coalman is the perfect choice! I highly recommend the shrimp tagliatelle! You won't be disappointed 🙂

New restaurant in Newcastle, located where the Starbucks used to be. I had the egg sandwich and she had the meatball sandwich. Both were very well made and tasted very good. For a place that is open only during breakfast/brunch hours I did find myself wanting an egg or omelette & toast dish. The egg sandwich was the closest they have. The other items - salads, yogurt, oatmeal - I didn't feel that's something I go to a restaurant to eat. When you eliminate these there isn't a whole lot left to choose from. The coffee was really good.

So today was the second time I visit Cafe Coleman. At first glance it looked like an excellent place and the food was really good. There was only one very big recurring problem. The attitude in the place is simply repulsive and disrespectful! When you pay almost $8 for a small coffee beyond what you expect the coffee to be good, you also want to get as good service as possible, unfortunately Coleman Coffee failed twice. The first time, after I complained that the coffee did not arrive as I requested, I encountered angry faces from the barmaid and they also "forgot" to serve me water even though I asked twice. Today I decided to give them another chance. I didn't want to burden them too much so I just asked for a small iced coffee. But they "forgot" again while at the same time I notice that customers who ordered drinks much later get what they ordered on time. The place is very atmospheric and you seem to have an excellent product, but the "forgetful" waiters/bartenders ruin the whole experience. If you want to receive condescending service and hateful looks when you drink your morning coffee this is the perfect place for you. I will definitely not be coming back here again.

Hard to believe we have such a gem of a restaurant right in Newcastle. Such warm and personable service from the manager/owner, John, and his crew. The food is top notch, better than what you can find in a top tier restaurant in downtown Bellevue - we've tried the salads, the tagliatelle, the chicken pot pie (filled with actual delicious chicken, and not potato as filler) and the beef and they are so good. The olive oil cake is a must-try. Pet friendly if dining outdoors. Highly recommend, you won't regret it.
