Extremely Disappointing Experience – Unsafe & Unwelcoming Treatment I never imagined I would feel unsafe in a place I consider my own, especially in a neighborhood like the Castro. I went to The Mix with friends last night, excited to enjoy the night out. However, the experience quickly soured when I was treated poorly by the security staff. When I first arrived, I showed my ID as usual, but I stepped outside briefly to get cigarettes. When I came back in, I showed my ID to Michael, the security guard, again. Without warning, Michael grabbed my hand, twisted it, and told me to "stand here until I tell you to go." It hurt, and when I asked them to stop grabbing me in that manner, they responded by yelling at me and saying they wasn’t going to let me in. I calmly requested to speak with a manager, hoping the situation could be resolved. Instead, a woman who I believe was either not the real manager or just a friend of Michael's, began yelling at me too without hearing my side of the story. She dismissed my concerns and sided with the security guard without any understanding of what had just happened. As a 24-year-old gay man, it was incredibly upsetting to be treated this way, especially for simply wearing a traditional outfit. I’ve always felt welcome and safe in the Castro, but last Saturday evening’s experience made me feel the opposite. It's disheartening to be harassed and belittled like that, especially in a community space that should be inclusive and safe. I won’t be returning to The Mix, and I hope management takes this feedback seriously. No one should feel threatened or unwelcome simply for who they are or what they wear.

I've always enjoyed The Mix. Bartenders are always friendly, and it's a fun relaxed atmosphere, especially on the patio. I've gone here for years and this is one stop I take friends when they're in town. This review is to give a HUGE shoutout to Marissa. My friend had a medical event on a Saturday night as they were really starting to get crowded. Marissa was masterful in remaining calm, controlling the crowd, delegating actions from other staff members, and communicating with me and my friend. She also worked hard to make my friend comfortable until an ambulance arrived. This is never something you expect to happen when you're having a night out, but I'm so glad it happened with someone like Marissa there. Thank you for being a stellar human being.

I had the WORST experience at this bar. The guy at the entrance was super rude. We’re not from here, and we got a drink at the bar. The bartender first gave us a regular cup, then switched to a plastic cup when he saw we were leaving. I wasn’t analyzing it much, but my friend went out of the bar, and I followed him. I wasn’t trying to break any rules, and when the guy from the entrance saw me, he said, “Oh no, you can’t do that.” I immediately went back in and apologized. That’s when he literally pulled me, grabbed my drink from my hand, and threw it in the garbage. I’m like ??? “Why did you do that? I just paid for my drink. I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” He then starts screaming at me, telling me to “go somewhere else” and “you are not thriving,” among other things. Seriously, what’s wrong with this service?!? Why in this would would he even touch me? Mistakes happen, and not even a cop would have treated me like that! I feel totally disrespected and discriminated against. This is unacceptable, and I need a follow-up on this incident.

THEY HAVE A PATIO!! Favorite spot in the Castro, hands down. Very friendly vibes unlike some of the other places, and I’ve always felt right at home, even though I don’t drink

Great neighborhood bar in the heart of The Castro with a very relaxed vibe. Friendly bartenders making stiff drinks! Popular open-air patio in the back is a nice surprise. Well behaved dogs are welcomed here and will most likely get a treat from a bartender!
